Week 02: Setting the Scene & Character design

This week I established the little monsters and scenes I wanted. And placed them in maya. I set the whole thing on an island with some stone statues, and grass nearby, and a pinkish-purple sky in the distance. The little monsters were spotted with sky blue and clouds.

This was my general idea and it looked good on the screen, so I decided to use this color, here are some mapping and the final result in Maya.

Week 01: Draft

This week I drew a storyboard, made a rough scene design and character design based on the storyboard, and discussed my project with my classmates.

I wanted to do a little monster on an isolated island and I compared the camera to an explorer observing him. When he saw the explorer and waved like it, the little monster wanted to get closer to him and came down the slide from the boat, but the camera went away. So he had to look out to sea to see if any humans were coming.

Revise and improve the storyboard based on the suggestions given by the students. Make a dynamic storyboard.

Week 02:

This week I have refined the layout and mapping of the scene with a more warm tone. It creates a warm and welcoming feeling. Also this week the character model bindings were completed and put into scenes for testing.

Continued refinement of the storyboard for more intuitive animation in post.

Week 08: Summary

This week we imported all the animations into unity to test them, and debugged the missing parts again. And finished painting all the UI. All aspects of the animation and UI are now being finalised.

The next step is for the game design and VR students to test and modify the game mechanics and playability. We will be working on the video and file submissions next week.

This is a test on a forest scene.

This is the final composite video of our collaborative project

Week 07:Oin animation

This week we are just short of the sprite animations that need to be bound and debugged. I have been working on the animation of the sprites and have made some controllers in Maya to allow the sprites.

But they don’t work in unity, so Lanjie did the model bindings and I did the sprite animation debugging. The final result can be seen in the game interface.

Through the creation of the sprite animation, I think that even a small animation needs to be animated and curved. And it was necessary to perform different body twisting animations and eventually choose the most suitable one for the scene to test.

Week 06: Mapping and character animation

This week I worked on the mapping and created the first draft of the character animation. This week the focus was on the creation of the UI, which was completed through group meetings with lanjie. Further refined the mapping needed for the game.

The sounds arts students were quick to record the master’s voice. This speeded up our progress, so lanjie and I were ready to refine our character animations and put them into unity for testing in week 7.

Week 06: Outline

I will prepare a preliminary outline for my thesis, taking into account the books and newspapers I have read recently

Week 05: Panel discussion

This week’s friendred led us in a group discussion. There were several questions discussed and we drew what would change if we swapped within the group and wrote down what each person would do.

What you can see is that we have painted a lot of graffiti on it. Not only are there some work arrangements within the group but there are also some creative doodles.

Here are some doodles about my part and the division of our group. And I don’t think we can interchange each of them at will. We each have our area. And they are very skilled in their area is what we have to learn. Likewise, we share what we know with the group. To make the result of our project look perfect.

Week 05: Storyboard

This week we have the most complete version of the story out and will start working on the character animations next week. This week we will also be doing some UI decal painting. After the first few weeks of hard work, our scenes are almost complete with the VR majors leading the way.

The player enters the game and first sees master’s character animation.

Week 05: Thesis Theme

The subject I want to study is about how the combination of experimental animation and contemporary art can cause phenomena in experimental animation.

I read books on experimental animation and went to see some contemporary art installations.

Classification of experimental animations

Experimental animation is broadly divided into two types: 1. trial animation before it becomes commercial animation. 2. a way of expressing the author’s ideas. The first type, such as Pixar’s annual short films, is partly experimental animation, where the technology is brought out to see how it is received by the market. When the market is receptive, the technology can be commercialized. The second type of experimental animation is simply a way for pioneering individuals or organizations to express their ideas in the form of animation or to serve a promotional purpose. This type of experimental animation is generally unattractive and not easily accepted by the audience.
